Gergana Gergova

Violin

Born into a musical family, Gergana Gergova's life has been marked by music since early childhood and winning prizes at solo- and chamber music competitions helped starting her an international career. As soloist she has performed with Festival Strings Lucerne, Orquesta Sinfònica de Madrid, RSB Berlin, Duisburg Philharmonic, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, C/ O chamber orchestra and various orchestras in Bulgaria. Together with pianist Pavlin Nechev and cellist Thomas Kaufmann she forms the piano trio „Trio Imàge“.
 Gergana Gergova has been invited to perform at chamber music festivals such as „Spannungen“ Heimbach, Moritzburg, West Cork (Ireland), Lockenhaus, Bahnhof Rolandseck, Schubertiade, Verbier, Chelsea (New York), Rheingau Musik Festival, Herrenchiemsee Festspiele, Festival de Mexico, Hambacher Musikfest as well as Varna Summer Festival. With „Trio Imàge“ (winner of the ECHO classic Award 2014 for their debut CD) she tours all over Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia. Other chamber music partners have been Christian Tetzlaff, Daniel Hope, Akiko Suwanai, Guy Braunstein, Carolin Widmann, Jan Vogler, Andreas Brantelid, Cedric Tiberghien and Lars Vogt.
 Besides the classical scene, she played with jazz legends such as John Patitucci and co-created, together with choerographer Sommer Ulrickson, artist Alexander Polzin, cellist Alban Gerhardt and dancer Dan Pelleg, the piece „Love in fragments“, including performance, art, music and theater which was premiered at the 92NY in New York.
 Gergana toured various times a string quintet program with musicians such as Baiba Skride, Brett Dean, Nils Mönkemeyer/ Amihai Grosz and Alban Gerhardt at Wigmore Hall London, Palais de Beaux Arts Brussels, Tonhalle Zürich, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin and Philharmonic Hall Essen. In 2016 she gave her debut at the Lucerne Festival as a leader and soloist of Festival Strings Lucerne.
 As concert master she has been working with Duisburger Philharmoniker, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Munich Radio Orchestra, NDR Hannover, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Festival Strings Lucerne, OBC Barcelona and Orquesta Sinfònica de Castilla y Leòn. From begin of the 2017 season she is first concertmaster of Orquesta Sinfònica de Madrid.
 Gergana has recorded for ABC Australia, DeutschlandRadio, SWR, WDR, ORF, RTÈ and Radio Bartok. In 2014 both the debut CD of Trio Imàge (The Complete Kagel Piano Trios, CAvi Music) as well as the Duo for Violin, Cello and Orchestra by Hans Pfitzner with the RSB Berlin under Sebastian Weigle for the English label Hyperion have been released to highest critical acclaim, both nominated for the “Deutsche Schallplattenpreis”. Also the latest two CD recordings of Trio Imàge with chamber music from Hans Sommer and with piano trios from Siegrfied Fall, Antonin Dvoràk and Marek Diakov, released in October 2015 and in November 2020, were critically acclaimed and were also both nominated for „Deutsche Schallplattenpreis“.
 Gergana started her violin lessons with Blagorodna Taneva in Pleven (Bulgaria) and studied with Prof. Mintcho Mintchev and Chamber Music with Prof. Andreas Reiner at „Folkwang Universität der Künste“ in Essen, with Prof. Yair Kless at “Universität der Künste Graz” and finished her Master of Chamber Music with Prof. Eberhard Feltz at „Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler“ Berlin. Further artistic inspirations she received from Menahem Pressler, Anner Bylsma, Heinrich Schiff and Shmuel Ashkenasi. Gergana plays a violin by G.B. Guadagnini, Turin, on generous loan
